Montblanc

The Treasure Room: a private app for Montblanc's most valued collectors, with their collection, its insurance and a concierge in one place.

The brief

Give Montblanc's elite collectors a place “to discover existing and new collections, provide insurance information and ultimately be inspired and trade”. It had to be fast to deliver, reusing the content and assets Montblanc already had.

The challenge

These collectors buy limited and high-artistry editions, pieces Montblanc calls “jewels that happen to write”. They needed a clear view of what they own and what's coming, with service to match.

Three goals shaped it: discover and trade sought-after writing instruments, clear categories and storytelling across the catalogue, and a full overview of everything a collector has bought.

My role

My experience department at Born ran this work. I set the strategy and led the research and workshops with the team.

I articulated it through the app's UX and UI, from sign-in to the collections and each collector's own view of what they hold.

What we did

  • Designed a private, invitation-only app for Montblanc's elite collectors.
  • Organised the catalogue into editions with their stories, from the Writers Edition to Egyptomania and Hannibal.
  • Gave each collector a full view of their collection and investments, and a wishlist.
  • Put the practical service in reach: download an insurance list, or contact a concierge.
  • Reused existing content and assets to keep delivery fast.

Collections

Collections brought Montblanc's editions together as twelve concepts, each with its story: High Artistry, the Writers Edition, Egyptomania, “a revival of ancient Egyptian treasures”, and the homage to Hannibal. Each opens into its detail, ready to explore.

My collection

Each collector sees what they hold across editions, piece by piece, for example 37 items from 4 editions, and keeps a wishlist of the pieces they want. From there they can download an insurance list, contact a concierge, or show their latest piece to friends straight from their phone.

Built fast

Reusing existing content and assets kept delivery fast, and the app gave Montblanc a customer overview and sales support tool along the way.

The result

A private, personal channel between Montblanc and its most valuable collectors: their collection, its insurance and a concierge in one place, and a clearer view of those customers for Montblanc.
